Shu Mei is the violinist of choice
Shu Mei's rising star shows no sign of letting up. Since graduating from the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music, she has embarked on a journey that transcends diverse musical genres - classical, pop, ethnic, fusion, jazz and latin. As a much sought-after soloist and ensemble musician, Shu Mei's energetic performances have won her kudos from both the classical and non-classical world.
Shu Mei has emerged as the violinist of choice for many regional and local artistes. As a classical violinist, she has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In 2005, she has had the opportunity to perform as a soloist to celebrate bilateral Singapore-Malaysia ties in front of 30,000 people at the Penang Indoor Stadium. She has also performed in Thailand, and at the Jakarta and Penang Jazz Festivals. Her association as a member of the ethnic fusion group Hybrid, swing group Goodfellas and San Nikkis provided the experience to expand and develop her formidable range of musical instincts.
Shu Mei has also shared the stage performing and collaborating with Singapore music icon Iskandar Ismail. Her beautiful musical personality brought her to many engagements performing for Singapore and world leaders. She has been called upon to grace opening ceremonies of major corporate events such as Canon, Honda, BMW, Cartier and Kerastase.
In recognition of her valuable musical influence, Shu Mei is currently an endorsee of the Yamaha Silent Electric String instruments.
San Nikkis is Singapore's first Electric String Trio
Shu Mei (first violin), Tze (second violin) and Dawn (cello) are classically trained musicians. They are musically talented, willing explorers of different music genres and most importantly, natural entertainers. Their photogenic allure compliment their musical virtuosity and talent for sizing out what the audience wants to hear. No surprise that San Nikkis are currently the hottest String Trio in town.
They have launched events for corporate bigwigs of Singapore such as Mercedes, Honda, Hyundai, Canon, Singapore Airlines, Saxobank, UOB, SMU; graced the catwalk with models from Lee Hwa, Pois, Kerastase, Cleo, Women's Weekly Magazine, Mr Singapore Pageant and government bodies such as LTA and PUB. Their work has taken them to China, performing with a live-band for automaker BMW.
The girls enjoy their work very much, as Shu Mei puts it "Its good fun to hang out, make music, get dolled up and gossip!"
Tessera is Singapore's premier all-female ensemble
Tessera is Singapore's newest, freshest premier all-female modern jazz ensemble featuring an eclectic collaboration of musical minds and artistic visions. In the formative process of finding its voice, Tessera draws influence from the provocative, progressive, outspoken nature and backgrounds of its members.
Comprising Sharon Nunis, Wendy Phua, Shu Mei and Audrey Tang, these 4 musicians were initially curated for the Singapore Wine & Jazz Festival 2010. Jazz aficionados, veteran musicians and casual audiences alike gave a rousing stamp of approval to Tessera's playful, inventive and organic performances both on stage and on Channel News Asia's Prime Time Morning show.
Apart from the obvious "all-female" trait of the band, it is the dissimilarity of each member's musical and life journeys, which synergises a revitalised sound and approach to jazz, extending it beyond the traditional and standard offerings in the market.

Audrey Tang
Audrey is Singapore's pioneering professional female jazz drummer. An honours graduate of the famed Berklee College of Music, Audrey has performed a myriad of musical styles in festivals throughout the world, with both local and foreign artists, to audiences from heads-of-states, to third-world orphans. Her performances have ranged from TV and studio recordings, free-imporvisational projects, fully-scored orchestral ensembles, jazz big bands, commercial pop and spoken-word bands. Founder and executive producer of the all-female R&B/Gospel band, Walking on Water, Audrey is used to wearing many hats - she runs 2 business, is a full-time musician and trains for half-marathons. She often jokes that she has 2 full-time careers and sleeps part-time, because music performance is as oxygen to her.

Sharon Nunis
Sharon was notorious in school, spending all her time on band rehearsals instead of her studies. Despite that, she became a teacher in a sceondary school - one who knew every homework excuse by heart. Deciding to puruse music full-time, she ventured out to Florida and New York City and grew addicted to the creative pulse and raw energy of Jazz Improvisation. Today, she performs and teaches, striving for an honest and free approach in both. Sharon enjoys debating music with her singer-songwriter husband and loves to work with like-minded usicians who do ot mind sacrificing sleep for the ultimate pleasure of a satisfying jam session!

Wendy Phua
Wendy, after years of classical piano training, decided to puruse a life in music on the bass instead at the age of 15. She has been crafting her own unique style of bass tapping, chordal and solo playing since and has now become widely respected for these traits, as well as her music technology innovations and original compositions. In 2008, Wendy released Singapore's first and only bass solo EP "Between Here and Then" and in the same year, she signed endorsements with Klotz cable and with Yamaha (Singapore) as its first female bass endorser. When she is not busy busting her chops at her day job in in-flight entertainment, Wendy is cooped up in her home studio woodshedding, composing music and working a full length bass solo album.
